Monkey D. Luffy is probably in one of his most intense fights of all time. As the Whole Cake Island progressed, it became clear that Luffy would be against a total monster, Charlotte Katakuri. Katakuri is a Sweet Commander in the Big Mom Pirates, and he’s their strongest member after Big Mom herself. He has never ever been defeated in battle, and he has tremendous powers.
He has also trained his Armament Haki to a whole new level, and with this, he can do significant damage even to Gear 4th! One of the biggest questions about Whole Cake Island has been how Luffy will be able to defeat him. At this point, the answer may not be clear, but we do know that Luffy will defeat him somehow. In the recent chapter Luffy exclaimed that once he regains his Haki, he would go and fight Katakuri once again.
However, he also said something, which interested a lot of fans. Luffy basically said that he would try looking into the future with Observation Haki as well. Now, whether that’s possible is an entirely different question. But, what this hints at is Luffy might actually be able to use this ability in the future as well.
In Gear 4th, Luffy uses the Armament Haki to its fullest capabilities, and combines it with his Devil Fruit powers to make it even more powerful. His Armament Haki level can be compared to Katakuri. This makes me wonder if the same can be done with Observation Haki. I think Luffy’s next gear will be such that he can use his Observation Haki in this form, and use it in such a way that he can find a chink in Katakuri’s armor, and actually be able to capitalize on it. Defeating Katakuri unless you can either distract him, or see more future than him is impossible.
The only way Luffy can do it is by being able to look into the future itself. If Luffy does attain that ability, then, for sure, he has a chance at defeating Charlotte Katakuri. I think Luffy will introduce us to a new variant of Gear 4th, which might considerably increase his ability to use Observation Haki. If he can pull it off, then, and only then will Luffy be able to defeat this absolute monster of a Pirate. Even then, defeating Katakuri right now seems like a stretch to me, but I think this might just be the right time to give Luffy a Power-up.
